Fleet Optimization
PLG has performed sizing, procurement, leasing, maintenance management, rationalization, inspection, and entry into service of thousands of rolling stock assets, primarily railcars.
Our team has extensive know-how and methodologies for the "right sizing" of fleets, utilizing production data, transit times, route-specific criteria, inventory demand, and buffer-stock criteria. This helps major rail shippers such as chemicals and bulk shippers maximize fleet productivity and control costs.
Our team also has deep expertise in railcar leasing, new-build, and secondary markets, and has helped numerous clients in lease vs. buy decisions and negotiations with railcar suppliers. PLG also conducts pre-service field inspections of railcar assets and helps clients in the fine-print negotiation of railcar and truck leasing and purchase agreements.
As part of our cost-out work, PLG can also organize, rationalize, and streamline complex fleets for bulk and chemical products, leveraging efficiencies across mechanical specifications, lease agreements, products, storage requirements, and routes.
PLG also has a robust mechanical engineering team that can design railcar modifications, load securements, new car concepts, and special-purpose gates and fittings to meet the needs of the wind energy industry and other sectors.
Beyond railcars, PLG fleet expertise also includes truck trailer fleet sourcing, design, and optimization, including specialized heavy-haul/oversized equipment for project cargo needs, and liquid and dry bulk trailers for chemicals and bulk shippers.
